Done with Stats 121 FOREVER!

Thanks to a sister who helped me with homework, the open T.A. lab, a boss who lets me study at work, and hours and hours of studying I passed my stats final....but more importantly I passed the class.  I may not have gotten a great grade but I passed.  Phew.

Because I have been dedicating so much time to my school work I have neglected updating you (all 2 of you) on my activities lately.  So here goes - (mostly in photos and not in chronological order)

I got to babysit my favorite 8 month old.  I caught this photo right as he was about to yawn/cry.  I think it's a hilarious face of his.

This is a much more "put together" face of his.  Because he's teething I gave him something to chew to calm him down.  He seemed to enjoy chewing my hair elastic, but then I realized that probably wasn't the smartest object to give him.  Choking hazard and all...

So I took it away from him.  You can tell he didn't like that.

Rach and I got to spend one Saturday at the farmers market with some of our favorite cousins.
A day with Caroline and Elisabeth is never boring.

We went to hear The New Electric Sound play again at Riverwoods.  If you haven't heard them check them out on iTunes or spotify.  Their CD is on repeat in our car.
our chalk art at the Riverwoods
I found this on our kitchen floor while on the way out the door one day.
Not knowing whose it was, Rachel then pinned it on our kitchen wall.

We barbecued our meat we got from corralling llamas.  Tanner makes a mean cheeseburger.

Flashback

The other I day I was bored and started searching random (but clean) stuff on google.  I don't know how I came across these or what I clicked to get there but after some clicks of the mouse I somehow stumbled upon these..... dads elementary school pictures.

Can you guess which one he is?
2nd Grade
Dad: middle top row - striped shirt
6th Grade
Dad: fourth from the left (dark shirt)
next to the tall kid with a funny collar
What a heartbreaker.

Check It

Check out my sisters article in this months Liahona and New Era!
Although all of the credit goes to her (obviously) I guess my mom and I can take credit for the inspiration of this story :)  Read it to find out why.

Note:  that is suppose to be me and my mom in the lower left frame.  Looks nothing like us

Pioneer Day Festivities

I'm such a bad blogger.  I'm sorry I have neglected it so long....mostly because this is like a journal for me.  Stats 121 has basically taken over my life.  But I have gotten a chance to steal away some time to have fun.

Last Tuesday I went up to Salt Lake with Mary A. and my friend Travis to see the Days of 47 floats.  Every year they put the floats on display a week before the parade.  Some of them were really well done and some were really creative.  However, my favorite would have to be the one that incorporated a little bit of London in it.  I'm not excited sure why it was included but as you can see in the picture below one stake portrayed early missionaries in London and speakers corner in Hyde Park.  And of course Big Ben didn't want to be left out so he made an appearance too.
Even though I've been home longer than I was actually away, I still miss London everyday.  I left a big part of my heart there.  I can't wait to watch the olympics which start on Friday, not necessarily because I'm excited to watch the sports, but because I'm excited to see shots of the place I called home for 3 months.
Not exactly sure what ice cream has to do with Pioneer day......
We couldn't help it.... we needed a picture with this gospel choir float
My favorite part about July is the time spent in Spring City.  Last night Rachel and I headed down after work with some friends.  After eating some dinner, making a quick stop at the ice cream social, and playing catch phrase with John and Paul, I headed to my comfy bed while the others all slept out in the pasture.  I'll take my bed over the hard bug infested ground any day.

This morning we were rudely awakened by the fire alarm signaling the fireman's breakfast.  This year we didn't go but decided to make our own.  The parade wasn't as good this year as it has been in the past but who's complaining?  One thing that we did not anticipate doing this year is something I never thought I would ever do.  While out on an ATV ride our friends Matt and TK randomly ended up helping a farmer herd a couple of his cows into a field and then were invited by his neighbor to come back later to.......help corral her llamas!  That's right, her llamas.  So we went back later to help round up some llamas.  Ok, I really just watched.....I didn't actually really do anything.  After two hours of watching 7 ATVs try to corner llamas we left with sunburns and a huge bag full of ground beef as payment for our time.

We finished off the night by enjoying the firework show in Spanish Fork.  The 24th of July is definitely my favorite summer holiday.  And yes, Tess, it totally trumps the 4th of July.

Today at work...

Kris Tina got hit on by a college student.  A premed student came in and sat down on the couch.  I was helping someone else so Kris Tina got cornered.  She was out in the front office getting a flyer for a prelaw student.  While she was grabbing the flyer the boy (still sitting on the couch) asks "do you work here?" all incredulous like.  She turned around and was like "ya." When she saw that he was premed she said "oh they can help you over at that desk (pointing to the premed desk)."  He looked at her for a few seconds, put his hand up and said "ummmm, no you can help me with what I'm looking for."  She looked at me and gave me a strange look and said, "ok, what?" He then proceeded to ask her a medical question.  She then told him she was the prelaw faculty advisor and that the premed student advisor can help him.  She rolled her eyes at me and as she walked back to her office the boy longingly looked after her. It was weird, but so funny.

Also today at work there was a girl down in the terrace of the Wilk on the piano and she was singing opera for literally (NOT exaggerating) 2 hours and 30 minutes.  It was so annoying!

Pioneer Day Preview

The Spring City Pioneer Day Celebrations were advertised on the Deseret News website today.  This is the picture that accompanied the advertisement.

Either this little girl is having the time of her life or she's scared out of her whits.  You decide.  I can definitely saw I WON'T be going on this ride on the 24th of July.

Visual catch up

These last two weeks have been crazy busy.  Since starting school and work I have had little free time.  Now I have much more respect for students who also work.  It's hard stuff.   I know from personal experience.  Speaking of which, I am studying for my stats test right now before I run to work in twenty minutes.  I'm taking a little break so I'm blogging with pictures of some stuff that has happened in the past two weeks.
Last weekend Rachel and I went up to Park City with Patrick to try and get a bed from Jim and Elinors house.  We couldn't fit the bed but we found some old clothes, which as you can tell, are a little too small.  Patrick, however, did give us some of his old clothes....and yes, we have been wearing them.  Thanks, Pat.

The Wood Hollow fire started up and spread rather quickly through Sanpete county.  Thankfully it has yet to reach Spring City.

The drive down to Spring City will not look the same again.  Too bad too because that is the prettiest stretch of the drive.

Mary is taking an Arabic class down here this summer so not only do we get to see her but we gained another roommate!  We had to initiate her by making her try Graham Canyon ice cream.  Pretty good BYU initiation, right?

My 3rd home right now after my real house down here and work.

The sky was so beautiful last night when we left the library.
Nighttime is pretty much the only bearable thing during summer.

With 6 fires blazing through the state ash is caking our lungs.  If it rains soon our cars might be covered in sludge because of the ash that has taken up residence on our cars.

Happy Father's Day!

dad's favorite

These two quotes eloquently express some of my feelings for my wonderful dad-

"My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me."
-Jim Valvano

"He didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it."
-Clarence Budington Kelland

Happy Father's Day to the greatest dad in the world!
I love you!

Good weekend

After my first day of work on Friday I went with my University Villa ward on their campout.  I only took about 3 pictures so I'm sharing one of our service project - helping clean twigs and trees up from our hosts yard.
While I was with my ward I missed seeing this little heartbreaker-
Henry - picture sent by Rachel via iPhone
Saturday Cara was in town on a layover and I got to hang out with her!

Last night Rachel, Brooke, and I hosted a Sunday Soiree (or dessert party) at mine and Rachel's house. We had a great turnout but overdid it on the desserts.  We have about 40 cupcakes, 3 dozen cookies, a pan of brownies, a bowl of lemon drops, a sheet of rice krispies, and about 2 dozen popcorn balls left.  Good thing we have freezer space.

Police Beats

I found this post that I was going to post last July but never got around to it.  This is just ridiculous- agree?

July 2: Nine ducklings got stuck in a pond near the Museum of Art. An officer put a board down in the pond and the ducklings climbed out.

Last couple of weeks...

Visited Grandma and Grandpa Franklin for Mother's Day.
Grandpa showed us the Noah's Ark my mom commissioned him to carve.
I've been watching one of my boss's kid the last two weeks.  Friday was my last day and I'm already missing Henry more than I thought I would.  Isn't he adorable?!
We went to the IFA store to run an errand for mom.  Not everyone can say they have to pick up grasshopper bait for their mother.
Rachel wanted these chicks but I said no because I'm not taking care of them in the fall when she jets off to Jerusalem for the semester.

The Spring City home tour was on Saturday.   We never thought we would have to blow dry the floor runners so they settle on the floor.

Brooke decided to eat mom's centerpiece of fruit.
Dad and I unintentionally matched
Yesterday I went with the parentals up to Ogden to place flowers on Grandma and Grandpa Barker's graves for Memorial Day.  After which we stopped by Grandma and Grandpa Franklin's house for a quick visit.
More pictures of Henry....he's just too cute to not show off.

Happy Mother's Day!

My mom is such a lucky lady.  Do you know why?  Well in addition to having me as a daughter ;) she also gets two shout-outs this year because mum's day was in March in the UK.  At church on Mum's Day when I was in England all the mothers and potential mothers were given flowers and a quote from David O. McKay.  The quote was as follows-

"The noblest calling in the world is motherhood.  True motherhood is the most beautiful of all arts, the greatest of all professions.  She who can paint a masterpiece, or who can write a book that will influence millions, deserves the plaudits and admiration of mankind; but she who rears successfully a family of healthy, beautiful sons and daughters whose immortal souls will exalt an influence throughout the ages long after paintings shall have faded, and books and statues shall have decayed or been destroyed, deserves the highest honor that man can give, and the choicest blessings of God."

Happy Mother's Day Mom, I'm the lucky one.

Apartment

Who knew my college bedroom would be bigger than my home bedroom.  This photo was taken before I moved most of my stuff in.  It's much more decorated and prettier now.

Puerto Rico

I spent the last week in Puerto Rico with the family.  We went to visit Brooke's mission and got to meet some of the amazing people she taught.  Because I'm too tired to write a long post (and I've gotten pretty lazy at blogging), I'll give a little synopsis of the things we did:

El Morro

decoration in the women's bathroom at church?
It looks like a part hat to me
This is how we felt after eating fried Puerto Rican food.  Fat.

Ponce
After traveling for the past four months it feels good to get back to normal life.  Although I'm usually in Salt Lake during the summer I'm back in Provo living in a house with Rachel.  It feels good to be back even if it is different from past semesters here.
